2023 Events and Festivities
It’s always cool to visit Oahu - the island with the big city and, more often than not, the most significant and boldest events. But May 2023 is going to be a particularly incredible time to visit.
With a variety of once-in-a-lifetime experiences on the calendar - we’re talking moonlit journeys to waterfalls and fire knife competitions, for example - you’ll have a hard time being bored during your visit.

We Are Samoa Festival: World Fireknife
When you see an event title like “World Fireknife Championships,” you’re right to be intrigued. Hosted by arguably the most incredible cultural museum in the state, We Are Samoa Festival features days of intense competition and even a grand finale in the form of a show called “Ha: Breath of Life.”
When: May 3rd - May 11th

Lei Day
Celebrations of Lei Day on May 1st will happen throughout the island. Perhaps most notable will be on the Great Lawn at the Bishop Museum, when Keauhou, legendary artist Robert Cazimero, and special guests will perform in celebration.

Malama yo Mamma Market at Aloha Home Market
It’s more than just a strong candidate for the most fun event to say out loud. It’s also a fantastic once-a-month Hawaiian local market - and in May is Mothers’ Day! For outdoor shopping and exploring Aloha Home Market is hosting a special Saturday market for Mother’s Day on May 13th. In addition to numerous local goods on sale, there will also be live entertainment and kids’ activities.
When: Saturday, May 13th, 9 AM - 2 PM

Waimea Valley Moon Walk
It’s as cool as it sounds. As beautiful as Hawaiian nature is, you’ve probably only seen one-half of it. Come with a guide and explore Waimea Valley under the moon's glow. Different sounds, sights, and a different world will greet you as you travel to Waimea Falls. Better yet, they’ll give you coffee, beer, or wine! Should we have said “and?”
When: Sunday, May 7th, 6:30 PM - 10 PM

Filipino Fiesta
This celebration of Filipino-American heritage takes place at Oahu’s Filipino Community Center. There will be food, drinks, live entertainment, and desserts - don’t forget about the desserts!
When: Saturday, May 6th, 10 AM - 8 PM
