31st Annual Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar Festival
This epic outdoor extravaganza will take place on the final Sunday in June as a grand finale for the month. Held in the gorgeous outdoor venue, the amphitheater in the Maui Arts & Cultural Center, the event will run for 4 hours in the afternoon and feature a ton of the state’s best slack key guitarists, including Ledward Kaapana, Kawika Kahiapo, George Kuo, and others.
The slack key guitar is one of the many Hawaii originals born from the island chain’s rich multi-cultural history. Cowboys from Portugal brought Spanish guitars to Hawaii in the 1800s - the result is something distinctively Hawaiian and beautiful.
June’s festival on Maui is as good a chance as there will ever be to hear the instrument at its very best.
