Mālama Wao Akua
An annual juried art exhibition from September 13 to November 8, 2024, at the Hui No‘eau Visual Arts Center in Makawao, Maui. This exhibition, now celebrating its 20th year, is a collaboration between the Hui No‘eau Visual Arts Center and the East Maui Watershed Partnership (EMWP). The exhibition's theme, "Caring for the Realm of the Gods," highlights Maui's native species, including plants, animals, and landscapes, and the efforts to protect these precious ecosystems.
The exhibition is open to artists of all ages, featuring works across various mediums. The opening reception will take place on September 13 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, providing an opportunity to view the art and meet some artists and jurors. This year's jurors are Mike Takemoto, a visual artist and professor at the University of Hawai‘i Maui College, and Kat M. Lui, a wildlife biologist and former EMWP Community Outreach and Education Liaison.
This exhibition is about art and raising awareness of Maui Nui's (Maui, Lāna‘i, Moloka‘i, Kaho‘olawe) unique native species and the importance of conservation efforts. The event is free and open to the public, making it an accessible and enriching experience for all who visit.
