The Garden of Eden
Hana Highway Must See
On the mauka side of the Hana Highway, half-mile past mile marker 10, you'll find The Garden of Eden Arboretum & Botanical Garden.
Here at Hawaii Guide usually don't go into details about private gardens or businesses, but this garden is the exception to the rule. It's one of our favorite stops on the Hana Highway. The garden is most popular for its debut in "Jurassic Park," where the opening sequence of the movie was filmed; specifically, the Keopuka "Jurassic Park" Rock, which can be seen from one absolutely gorgeous lookout inside the garden.

Relax and enjoy the beautiful view from the Garden of Eden Botanical Arboretum
The 25-acre site was purchased in 1991 with a vision of restoring the area's natural ecosystem with Hawaii's native and indigenous species. Along the way the opportunity arose to include exotic plants and trees from the South Pacific region and tropical rain forests throughout the world.
Today there are over 500 botanically labeled plants, including the most extensive collection of ti plants in Hawaii. Ti has a long history of usage by the Polynesians in ceremonies and rituals and is still considered one of Hawaii's most culturally useful plants.
You can also catch a good look at Upper & Lower Puohokamoa Falls from within the garden. Several domesticated animals live inside the garden including peafowl, chickens, ducks, geese, and even some horses. Expect to spend about an hour or two at the garden.
As of this writing, there is an admission charge of $20 adult, $10 child (Ages 5-16), and kids under 5 are free. The garden is open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
