2026 Events and Festivities
June 2026 on Kaua’i brings a mix of cultural traditions, weekly farmers markets, and the start of Obon season. King Kamehameha Day anchors the month with a statewide holiday, while local markets and a songwriting competition round out the calendar. Here is what to look for if you are visiting the Garden Isle in June.
King Kamehameha Day
June 11 is a state holiday honoring King Kamehameha I, the warrior chief who unified the Hawaiian Islands. On Kaua'i the celebration centers at Vidinha Stadium in Līhu'e with cultural performances, a lei-draping ceremony, and community festivities that draw families from across the island.
When: Thursday, June 11th, 2026
Where: Vidinha Stadium, Līhu'e
Kauai Community Market
Every Saturday morning, the parking lot at Kaua'i Community College fills with vendors selling local produce, baked goods, prepared food, and handmade crafts. This is the island's largest weekly market and a solid place to stock up on tropical fruits, fresh-baked banana bread, and poke bowls straight from local fishers.
When: Every Saturday, 9:30 AM - 1 PM
Where: Kaua'i Community College, Līhu'e

Kauai Composers Contest & Concert
Local songwriters compete in this annual event at Kaua'i War Memorial Convention Hall, performing original Hawaiian music compositions before a panel of judges. The contest is followed by a concert featuring the winning songs and guest performers. Exact June 2026 dates are still to be announced.
When: June 2026 (dates TBA)
Where: Kaua'i War Memorial Convention Hall, Līhu'e
Obon (Bon Dance) Season Begins
Starting in late June and running through August, Obon season brings Japanese Buddhist memorial traditions to temples across Kaua'i. Expect community dancing in yukata robes, taiko drumming, and food booths serving shave ice, andagi, and plate lunches. Līhu'e Hongwanji Mission and Koloa Jodo Mission are two of the main venues. Each temple sets its own schedule, so check locally for exact dates.
When: Late June through August 2026
Where: Kaua'i Buddhist temples including Līhu'e Hongwanji Mission and Koloa Jodo Mission
Hanalei Farmers Market
Tucked along the North Shore at the Waipa Foundation, this Saturday morning market features taro, tropical fruits, local honey, and fresh produce from small Kaua'i farms. The setting next to Hanalei Bay makes it worth the drive even if you only pick up a bag of lilikoi. Cash only.
When: Every Saturday, 9:30 AM - Noon
Where: Waipa Foundation, Hanalei (North Shore)
June 2026 on Kaua'i is quieter than the peak winter months, which works in your favor. King Kamehameha Day gives you a window into Hawaiian cultural traditions without the crowds of a major festival. The weekly markets in Līhu'e and Hanalei are year-round staples, and if your trip stretches into late June, catching the first Obon dances of the season is an experience you will not find on a typical tourist itinerary.
