Valley Isle Waterfall
Muai Sights
Makamaka`ole Falls is a large waterfall on Makamaka`ole Stream. It is visible along the Waihee Ridge trail. The best view is approximately at the one mile marker along the trail. The waterfall drops in several tiers, totaling about 270 ft. in height. You can also catch a glimpse of the falls on the Kahekili Highway (county route 340) along Maui's northwest coast. Just past mile marker 8 you should be able to see the waterfall down below in a small valley to your left. If it's been especially dry lately, the falls may not be currently flowing. As can be see via the photographs, it is a two-tier waterfall. Often the lower part of the waterfall is visible even when the upper level is not.

Oʻahu is staying mostly dry today while the Big Island's windward side gets soaked from a weak system. That rain tapers off by late morning as the system moves west and weakens.
By Wednesday, conditions clear across all islands. Trade winds stay moderate through midweek, then pick up noticeably Thursday through the weekend—breezy enough that a Small Craft Advisory is likely for waters around the Big Island and Maui. Showers will favor windward and mountain areas, especially this weekend when moisture levels rise slightly. North and west shore surf sits near seasonal average through Wednesday, then dips Thursday and Friday before building again over the weekend.
Leeward beaches and snorkeling work well through Wednesday. If you're planning windward hikes, wait until afternoon when the rain clears.
