A part of the Pupukea Beach Park, Shark's Cove is a rocky beach (lava rock, actually) on Oahu’s North Shore.
Don’t worry. You are unlikely to see any sharks here. So why the shark reference? It has been said that the outline of the outer lying reef looks similar to that of the shape of a shark.
In years gone by lava has formed underwater caves which are now a large source of entertainment for divers and snorkelers. And it’s no surprise.
These caves and lava tunnels are from between 15 and 45 feet below the surface.
Understandably, this underwater world is the home to a diverse and stunning array of sea life.
Sea turtles and colorful fish are plentiful, with experienced divers able to take advantage of the environment and report back on what they’ve discovered.
Visitors are asked to keep in mind that Shark Cove is a part of over 80-acre marine life conservation district, and as such needs to be treated with the utmost respect of not only the above grounds but the underground sea world.
Where: Located on the North shore of Oahu.
Accessibility: Parking lots lead down to the water, on a steep dirt path. Can travel here by bus.
Amenities: Restrooms, Drinking fountain. Grocery store across the road.
Top Tip: Wear appropriate footwear with excellent traction. The rocks will tear up anything unsuitable.
