Is there Etiquette When Visiting a Spa?

Like most things refined, it is good to know the kinds of behavior expected at a spa facility, with most having similar standards. Not only for your own level of comfort but for those offering the experience, it’s a good idea to familiarize yourself with the expectation. It makes for a better experience all around.

Some of the things to keep in mind include:

Gratuity

It is not uncommon for visitors to a spa to offer a tip at the end of the service. Depending on the center’s policies, it may be a gratuity for the person who has provided the service or a tip for the center to show your appreciation. A general guide would be around 18 to 20 percent.

Make an Appointment

This is particularly beneficial if you are not sure what type of massage or experience you would like. Of course, making an appointment allows the center to customize your stay to make it extra special.

Special Needs

If you have a specific requirement or have particular services in mind, please give the center a call. Some visitors require a spa that is accessible by wheelchair or mobility scooter. It’s best to check.

If you have any pre-existing medical needs or injuries, you will need to discuss them with your provider.

Speak Up if it’s Not for You

If you are uncomfortable at any time, speak up. There’s no point in battling through something you’re not 100 percent ok with. It could be something as simple as the types of oils used, the temperature in the room, or the music playing being too loud.

This experience is all about you, and all wellness centers cater to the individual to ensure a lasting memory.

Attire

Spa centers provide robes and slippers for the comfort of patrons. There is no need to wear anything. Leave all valuables at home or safely in your hotel. The aim is to relax and not be encumbered.

Appointment Timeliness

Be certain to remain on time for your appointment. You will get the best experience where your treatments are not delayed by tardiness. Ring to confirm if you don’t recall what time you made the initial appointment. Some centers may text to remind you of your appointment to ensure plans have not changed.
