Maui has some of the finest beaches in all of Hawaii. It also has some of the most diverse. West Maui offers a number of fine beaches scattered between major resorts (Ka'anapali being our personal favorite), while South Maui is teaming with a variety of beaches along the shoreline from north Kihei to beyond Wailea. The famous duo: 'Big Beach' and 'Little Beach' are extremely popular here. East Maui offers few beaches along the Hana Highway, but makes up for it with a beautiful black sand beach at Wai'anapanapa State Park. Plus, beyond Hana town there is world renown Hamoa Beach (voted one of the finest anywhere). If you're up for a little adventure, there's even a Red Sand beach just on the edge of Hana town. ...Get a great view of all the beaches on Maui through our many staff and user submitted photos.

On Highway 31, over a half mile past mile marker 51 beyond Hana town, you’ll come to a road on the makai side of the highway named Haneo‘o Road. The hill to your left is actually an eroding cinder cone known as Ka Iwi o Pele (the bones of Pele). Driving down Haneo‘o Road, the rugged cliffs give...

Location: South Maui

Also known as Oneloa Beach (its true Hawaiian name) or Makena Beach*, Big Beach is probably one of the prettiest beaches on Maui, certainly south Maui. It is nearly 2/3 mile long and over 100 feet wide. The gorgeous sand and pristine waters attract snorkelers, swimmers and sunbathers. As with most...

Location: South Maui

It's rare to find an unoccupied beach in south Maui, but that's just what is likely to happen when you visit Po'olenalena (also known as Paipu Beach, Pepeiaolepo Beach, Love Beach, Keauhou Beach or Makena Surf Beach). Po'olenalena is excellent for swimming since its sandy shores slope gently into...

Location: Southwest Maui

Nearly all of the seaside resorts in this area back up to Ka'anapali Beach, a three mile stretch of sand suitable for frolicking with a sidewalk that runs the entire length by the hotels to Black Rock. Black Rock slices across the beach and is a popular spot for snorkelers and scuba divers. Those...

Location: South Maui

This underused but beautiful beach is located on Makena Alanui Road in South Maui right next to Makena Beach. Oneuli means "dark sands" which aptly describes the beach's salt and pepper mixture of black and white sand. After years of abuse from the ocean waves, the nearby Pu'u Ola'i Cinder Cone's...

Location: Southeast Maui

A more popular beach in Hana town is just on the other side of Ka'uiki hill at Hana Bay. This beach is known as Kaihalulu (Red Sand) beach. The beach gets its red sand from lava cinders off Ka'uiki. The quickest way to access this beach is to take Ua'kea road past Hana Bay to where it dead ends at...

Location: Northeast Maui

Between mile markers 13 and 14 on the Hana Highway you will have a chance to visit Honomanu Bay. There are two roads that lead to the beach. The first is about a half-mile beyond the 13 mile marker - but this dirt road brings you out on the wrong side of the beach (the stream will cut you off...

On Highway 31, over a half mile past mile marker 51 beyond Hana town, you'll come to a road on the makai side of the highway named Haneo'o Road. The hill to your left is actually an eroding cinder cone known as Ka Iwi o Pele (the bones of Pele). Driving down Haneo'o Road, the rugged cliffs give...

Kama'ole Park is located in the town of Kihei and is divided into three distinct beach areas. Kama'ole I has the largest and nicest beach of the three with fine white sand and great swimming conditions. There's also a grassy area at the south end for picnics and playing. Kama'ole II is located a...

Location: Northwest Maui

Oneloa or Ironwoods beach is a quiet stretch of shoreline located in the northern portion of West Maui between Kapalua and Napili. Public parking and beach access is present but hard to find, most folks don't realize there is a beach. That makes this beach nice, quiet and uncrowded. The beach is...

Location: South Maui

Little Beach in South Maui is the unofficial place to relax and bare it all. Even with the clothing-optional reputation, Little Beach, which is adjacent to Makena (Big) Beach, is often as packed as it's larger brother. This is a good spot to body surf as well as swim and snorkel when the surf is...

Location: South Maui

Palauea, means 'lazy' which is exactly how you'll want to be once you reach this lovely south Maui beach. Located off Makena Road, this medium sized beach is underused. The snorkeling and scuba are excellent here. Rock formations on either side of the beach are good snorkeling spots while the south...

Location: Northeast Maui

Ho'okipa Beach Park is located right beyond Pa'ia and Ka'au town makai (toward the ocean) on the Hana Highway. You'll pass the steeply graded exit before you pass the entrance, so be looking for the sign marking the spot. There are two very different spots (hangouts) located inside small Ho'okipa...

Location: South Maui

Shady, sandy and safe for the kids - Maluaka seems like the ideal Maui beach. This beach fronts the Maui Prince Hotel off Makena Road in South Maui. At the south end of the beach, there is excellent snorkeling, and good diving a bit further out. At the north end of the beach there is decent...

Location: South Maui

This protected bay makes it a haven for fish of all kinds and an excellent spot for snorkeling, but the area has become another victim of popular guidebooks. Ahihi Kina'u is actually a natural area reserve, not a recreational park. Many of the hikes are over treacherous, barren, hot and remote a'a...

Location: Southwest Maui

In ancient Hawaiian legend this large, black mass of lava was where the souls of the dead leaped into the arms of the gods named Pu'u Keka'a. Now it is a heaven for snorkelers and scuba divers to explore the beauty of the ocean including honu (green sea turtles). The black rock splits Ka'anapali...

Location: Northeast Maui

While you're in Hana make sure to take a moment to stop by Hana Bay where you'll find a large black sand beach. The black sand was formed as lava eroded slowly over time, eventually washing up around the bay. Swimming is usually pretty good, but be sure to check with a local resident before jumping...

Location: South Maui

Charley Young Beach is a sheltered 3-mile park at the north end of Kamaole I Beach in Kihei. You can dig your toes into the abundance of soft sand at this beach and enjoy the protection from the wind. There is no lifeguard on duty, but there are portable toilets and showers. Parking can be...

Location: Southwest Maui

This peaceful park is great for family outings. There is a large, man-made wading pool for kids that is protected from the waves. You can catch a glimpse of the neighboring islands of Kaho'olawe, Molokai, and Lanai from the park's picnic area. There is paved access and parking available as well as...

Location: Southeast Maui

Nu'u Bay is a little rocky patch of 'beach' in Southeast Maui. When the water is relatively calm and the wind is at a minimum, swimming and snorkeling can be enjoyable. Do not go out too far because the current is strong. The best spot to do this is on the east side of the beach on the rocky...

Location: South Maui

This small beach is not often used, but just as respectable as some of the others in Wailea. Located behind the Kea Lani Beach Hotel and the Polo Beach Club, it was named after the club. The water is more shallow than most beaches here and has some slippery rocks, but it still offers a good...

Location: Southwest Maui

Puamana Park is a great spot for a shady family picnic or a frolic on the slim strand of sandy beach. The park, which is just south of Lahaina, is also the spot where the whaling brig The Carthaginian was sunk to create an artificial wreck and snorkeling attraction. You can also get some nice views...

Location: Northeast Maui

H. A. Baldwin Park, a tribute to Harry A. Baldwin for his contributions to Maui, is more than just a beach. There are fields for soccer and softball as well as several picnic pavilions and barbecues. The beach is lovely for swimming, but can get a bit windy in the afternoons for sunbathers. This is...
