Joy Blais, of Blue Buddha Acupuncture, is an extremely adept and caring practitioner. Her ability to discern exactly which acupuncture points or herbs to use is second to none, and over time a series of treatments with the use of specific herbs will produce some great results. The very first treatment I experienced with Joy resulted in a deeply relaxing, calm feeling throughout my whole system. Her caring and attentive approach allowed me to relax and I immediately felt that I was in good hands.
Joy is highly skilled at thoroughly examining symptoms, assessing and working with her patients over time to determine the most appropriate and effective health care program for each individual. Joy is also very efficient at designing effective treatments for clients who are visiting Hawaii for a short time. There is something for everyone – even those who are a little afraid of needles can relax into a needle-free cupping, acupressure or sound vibration healing with great results.
For those who seek to resolve health issues, a series of treatments is recommended. After six sessions, I noticed a gradual yet significant difference in the way an uncomfortable and persistent health issue affected my day-by-day life. The main symptoms eased a great deal, and as I continue treatment, each week I notice vast improvements in my overall health and wellbeing.
Joy’s interests include preventative medicine and nutrition as well as the treatment of chronic pain, musculoskeletal issues (including back/shoulder pain & sciatica), women's health and fertility support, PTSD, anxiety & depression, and digestive complaints. She is skilled at treating a long list of conditions. Please refer to her website for more information www.bluebuddhaacupuncture.com

In addition, she is trained in the NADA (National Acupuncture Detoxification Association) protocol for the treatment of behavioral health including addictions (smoking, compulsive eating, withdrawal, etc.), mental health, and disaster & emotional trauma (including PTSD). Joy is a certified Kiso practitioner and is trained in the Acutonics method of tuning fork sound healing. The use of tuning forks in combination with acupuncture is extremely relaxing.
Chinese medicine is a traditional form of health care, which has stood the test of time. The healing art of acupuncture is both safe and effective in treating disease as well as in balancing the body and mind to prevent illness from developing. This system of care recognizes that every person is unique, therefore treatments are tailored to your individual constitution, personal health history, and specific health concerns.
Joy will employ some or all of the following modalities to enhance your treatment:
Acupuncture: Thin needles are inserted into specific points on the body to access Qi.
Chinese herbs: Chinese herbs are powerful medicines used to support the balancing of the body. A formula of loose herbs may be prescribed for you to prepare at home and drink as a tea or you may be given a formula in the form of concentrated teapills or powder. All herbs come from reputable companies and are tested for and proven to be free from impurities and heavy metal contamination.
Moxibustion: The herb Ai Ye (mugwort) is used to warm needles or areas of the body to increase qi and blood flow.
Aromatherapy: Snow Lotus essential oil blends are used when appropriate to compliment the treatment.
Nutritional Counseling: Dietary suggestions based on your individual constitution and circumstances.
Gua Sha: A method of increasing circulation to an area through pressured strokes with an instrument, often used to treat muscle pain or blood stagnation.
Cupping: A technique involving the application of vacuum sealed round cups over the skin to increase Qi flow and to draw stagnation to the skin's surface. It feels great and often provides instant relief for a tight neck, shoulders and back.
Acutonics Sound Vibration Healing: Tuning forks of different frequencies are applied to specific acupuncture points to stimulate the point. This is a great therapy for those who are afraid of needles. It is also a great treatment for pain and anxiety as it is extremely calming to the mind and body.
Joy’s treatments are based on the premise that our physical and mental-emotional health are interdependent. She says that “only through balance of both body and mind can we truly find peace.” In my experience, it is my willingness and intention to truly heal that facilitates the effectiveness of the treatments, and combining this factor with Joy’s extensive expertise is a winning combination.
The Blue Medicine Buddha is said to have the ability to see the true causes of disease, whether physical, psychological, or spiritual in nature and to alleviate suffering.
This can serve as a reminder for us to care for ourselves in all aspects of our lives and to be mindful of our thoughts and actions.
