Summer is coming to Hawaii, and the island of Oahu is in the middle. The June calendar is piling up with events, many of them (understandably) outdoor/ocean related. From surf contests to century-old celebratory traditions, you will find a plentiful array of cultural, culinary, and downright cool things to immerse yourself in on Oahu this June.  

 This oft-visited island is usually a hub of activity. What follows is merely our hand-picking of some of the best on the calendar. Here are some of the most fantastic events and festivals coming to Oahu this June.

T&C Surf Grom Contest

This surfing contest is unique in that it is for kids. Less a competition and more of a celebration, this year Kuhio Beach will once again be the playground of some of the most impressive junior surfers in the world. There is also a special tandem event where adults join in.

When: June 3rd and 4th, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM

2nd Annual IBC Junior Pro

It isn’t just surfing on the horizon. For the second year in a row, The International Bodyboarding Corporation is also hosting a major competition in Oahu this June. This event also focuses on youth athletes and will be held on June 24th and 25th at Sandy Beach.

When: June 24th, 25th, 7 AM - 4 PM

Where: 8801 Kalanianaole Hwy, Sandy Beach, Honolulu

King Kamehameha Lei Draping Ceremony, Floral Parade

This beautiful Honolulu tradition involves draping the famous statue of King Kamehameha in a vibrant array of leis. A parade will be held the following day, starting from Iolani Palace and ending at Queen Kapiolani Park. This year will mark the 106th annual parade and the 151st lei draping ceremony, dating back to well before Hawaii’s statehood. 

When: June 9th, 2 PM - 5:30 PM

Beach Days Market

For local arts and crafts, you’ll want to head over to Aloha Home Market in Kailua on Saturday, June 17th. For their special Beach Days Market event, you’ll find jewelry, furniture, food, clothing, and much more - all unique and locally made.   

When: Saturday, June 17th, 9 AM - 2 PM

Waimea Valley Moon Walk

Summer is the perfect time of year to experience this magical monthly event. So much of Hawaii’s wondrous allure is associated with sunshine and daytime activity. Here is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see the other half of it. They serve beer, wine, and coffee, too.

When: Sunday, June 4th, 6:30 PM - 10 PM
