As summer turns to fall, the festivities don’t appear to be slowing down on the island of Kauai. Plenty is happening on The Garden Island this September, whether you’re looking for cultural experiences, outdoor excursions, or just a laid-back good time.

Many, if not most, of these rip-roaring events are hosted/sponsored by local businesses and organizations, enabling the win-win of enjoying your visit while supporting the local community simultaneously. You’ll expand your knowledge and maybe even acquire new skills, particularly at educational events like the week-long Mokihana Festival.

Kauai Mokihana Festival 

Hosted by the Malie Foundation, the Mokihana Festival is a week’s worth of cultural celebration, education, music, hula, and more. Through a series of workshops and performances, attendees will immerse themselves in everything that makes Hawaii such a beautiful and unique place. Makai Music & Art Festival 

The Makai Golf Club in Princeville is a perfectly scenic location for an outdoor afternoon of food, music, local crafts, and more. The cocktails and burgers here are of particularly legendary status. Best of all, the festival is free to attend, and it’s free to park.

When: Wednesdays, September 6th, 13th, 20th, & 27th, 1 PM - 5 PM

The Party at Big Wave Dave’s

For old-school, classic night-out fun, Big Wave Dave’s in Kapaa is where The Party is at! With live music, dancing, drinks, food, and no cover charge to get in, this monthly event is everything an island-bound party-goer would hope to find.

When: Friday, September 15th, 7 PM -10 PM

The Kauai Marathon & Half Marathon

There is no more beautiful location than Kauai for those looking to burn off some of those piña coladas and mixed plates. September sees the return of the Kauai Marathon & Half Marathon. The jungles and ocean vistas on the route can only be done justice by photos and videos.

When: Sunday, September 3rd, 6 AM - 3 PM

Hawaii Line Dance Festival 

The whole family can get behind this kind of all-boxes-checked event. In addition to open line dancing, there will also be lessons and workshops. There will also be food and over 30 craft vendors. Plus, the whole 2-day event is a major fundraiser for the Kauai Veterans Center. 

When: September 15th & 16th
