Hawaiian spinner dolphins feed at night and use nearshore waters during daylight to rest and care for their young. NOAA’s viewing guidance recommends watching from shore or a boat and never swimming with spinner dolphins.
We recommend choosing an island coast trip for the route, time aboard, and any separate reef-snorkeling stop. Treat dolphins as a possible sighting along the way. A sheltered bay is resting habitat, not an appointment to meet a pod.
Before booking, ask how the captain keeps the required distance and avoids disturbing resting animals.
