Choose the souvenir before you reach the airport, but check its travel rules before you pay. A bag of roasted coffee, a fresh pineapple and a box of lychee fall into different categories. A sealed package or a seller's “mainland-ready” sign does not replace USDA inspection.
The USDA APHIS Hawaiʻi traveler guidance, updated September 16, 2026, requires you to present all food, plants and other agricultural items to an inspector before leaving Hawaiʻi. Its allowed list still means allowed after passing inspection. That page covers travel to the U.S. mainland, Alaska and Guam; destination-specific exceptions matter.
Use this guide for shopping decisions, then use our departure bag-inspection guide for airport preparation. For a mainland-bound trip, split your shopping list into gifts to pack, purchases to confirm with the seller, and fresh treats to eat while you are here.
