A Hawaiian vacation is always a memorable experience. Those memories can be supplemented with great photographs of the attractions you visit. One of the most photographic areas of the island state is the island of Maui. Pictures of Maui can invoke the warm breezes and tropical delights of the area and serve as a reminder of the beauty of the island paradise until your next trip. Some of the best attractions on the island also make the best photographs.
Shoot the Whales
Shooting the whales, with a camera of course, allows you to bring home a trophy of your adventure with the world’s largest mammals as well as the memories of a wonderful adventure. Maui offers a number of whale watching excursions. These boat trips don’t guarantee a brush with Moby Dick but offer you the best chance of the seeing these ocean dwelling giants. Use a waterproof camera set to a sport setting, if possible, to catch the action.
Pics at a Luau
The roast pig may be the centerpiece of any luau, but your photographs can remind you of the evening long after you have returned from that sandy beach. Check the luau policies to make sure customer photographs are allowed. Set the camera to a night setting and try to catch the action for some great party pictures of Maui.
Take a Hike
There are a number of hiking trails on the island of Maui that all offer great scenic views and adventure. For example, the Waimoku Falls Trail (aka Pipiwai Trail) leads you two miles through a lush tropical forest with native plants and birds around every corner of the improved trail. At the end of the trek you can view a 400 foot water fall. The trail is a bit of a climb but accomplishable by most hikers. The water fall makes a great photograph, especially in the rainy season when the volume of water is highest. Set the camera to the appropriate setting depending on the natural light conditions of the day and fill a memory card with great memories.
Life is a Beach
Island life really is all about beach time. Maui offers some of the great beaches of the world with sunbathing, swimming and walking or running opportunities nearly as numerous as the grains of sand. Landscape and ocean view pictures of the beach scene make the time with sand between your toes a lasting memory. Use a water and sand resistant camera and use the sunny setting for the best shots.
Below are a few of our favorite memorable Maui photos. We hope you can find several of your own to treasure after your trip to the beautiful Valley Isle.
