Nestled in the magnificent amphitheater of the mountains of Hanalei, and poised on a mountain side overlooking the ocean, is the stunning St Regis Hotel.  It is the legendary brand’s first resort in Hawaii and introduces an unparalleled level of sophistication and uncompromising luxury to one of the most remarkable destinations in the world.  The St Regis Princeville is without a doubt one of the Best Luxury Hotels on Kauai.  Beginning the moment you are greeted by your friendly valet, you will discover The St Regis experience to be a gracefully revealed series of unexpected pleasures.  The St Regis Princeville’s accommodations are second to none, with large, comfortable, tastefully decorated and beautifully appointed guestrooms and suites.  The contemporary Hawaiian design of the rooms reflects the color palette of the surrounding sky, sea and earth, ensuring a calming and relaxed experience.  The sumptuous marble bathrooms offer exquisite amenities to welcome guests, with double vanity and oversized bathtub with shower combination. A seating area fronting the large expansive window provides a perfect place to take in the spectacular ocean views.

The decorative features at the St Regis are impressive in their reflection of the local environment and culture.  A gigantic chandelier hangs in the main lobby that is a representation of the waterfalls on Mt. Namalokama, which are easily viewed through the large pane glass windows, facing towards Hanalei and Ha’ena.  The magnificent hotel offers the finest expressions of service, including a century-old butler service with a personalized touch, offering elite clientele an experience beyond expectation. The 9,000 acre resort was reopened in 2009 after a massive renovation - the site was originally called the Princeville Hotel.  St Regis traces its rich heritage back more than 100 years to the grand opening of its flagship hotel - St Regis New York - by the Astor family, whose tradition was to treat guests of the hotel as though they were personal guests in their own home.  The St. Regis staff is committed to delivering this promise in every moment of every stay, and are incredibly accommodating, professional, friendly and knowledgeable.

The Lihue Airport is approximately 32 miles south of Princeville and served by inter-island and major airline carriers.  The St. Regis Princeville Resort is located in the moku (land division) of Halele'a (the house of joy). Halele'a was noted in ancient times as the most beautiful place in the Hawaiian Islands. This area and its immediate surroundings were kula lands - land available to the maka'ainana or common person for cultivation and fishing.  Below the hotel are remnants of an ancient Hawaiian fishpond built in prehistoric time. Known as Kamo'omaika'i it was one of the few kuapa (ocean wall) type fishponds on Kaua'i.  When the hotel first opened, it was created around the philosophy of the Ahupua’a (Hawaiian Land division).  Staff needed to learn about the stories and the legends of the area.  Within the ahupua’a there was a sense of community and sustainability, which is reflected in the way that St Regis works with local farmers and fishermen.  Taro is utilized in the restaurants so they can support local production, and 70% of food that is served in the five dining venues is produced either on Kauai or within Hawaii and there is a strong ethic to work as closely with organic farmers as possible.  Dining options include The Kauai Grill, St Regis Bar, Makana Terrace, Nalu Kai Grill and Bar – ranging from five-star restaurants with outdoor terraces or private candlelit dining to poolside restaurants and bars, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner.  There is also an intimate cocktail lounge offering club style service and live entertainment.

It is a St Regis tradition to display a signature mural to represent an aspect of the local culture.  Near the main bar, there is a mural that is specific to Kauai depicting Mt Makana (Bali Hai) and the Na Pali Coast. It represents the ‘Oahi  (fire torch) ceremony, which occurred only on Kauai on special occasions.  In the ceremony, dried Hau logs were carried to the top of the mountain by a secret trail and were stuffed with tinder, set afire and then tossed into the air.  The swirling air currents often lifted the firebrands high into the air and out to sea – an auspicious omen.  Mt Makana was one of only 2 places in the entire Hawaiian Island chain where this ceremony was performed.  Overlooking Hanalei Bay, the sunset view of towards Mt Makana is one of the best in the entire state.   Honoiki reef is the second longest barrier reef on the island of Kauai and is an integral feature of the beach at the St Regis.  Excellent swimming, snorkeling, surfing and kayaking are a stones throw from the swimming pool and Jacuzzi.  Locally, an array of diverse activities are available, including the essential and renowned Makai Golf Club. The course winds it way around serene lakes, native woodlands and the spectacular coastline with views of Bali Hai and Hanalei Bay.  The course plays to a par 72 with four different sets of tees that can be stretched to more than 7,200 yards from the tips.
