This little treasure has plenty of soft sand and seclusion for a morning of peaceful sunworshipping or swimming. This beach used to be about a mile long but development has caused erosion, making it about a half-mile. But a great half mile! The two lovely offshore islands make it a picture postcard spot. The wind is also good here for sailing and windsurfing. There is even some good snorkeling to be had. Access is only available by the public access walkways. Please respect residents property.

There is no lifeguard out here or amenities. Watch out for the Portugese Man-of-War (jellyfish) and stinging limu (seaweed) especially from June through September. Lanikai Beach

This "Curved" bay was declared a protected marine life conservation area and underwater park in 1967. This is a great location if you want to see lots and lots of fish fairly easily, even if you are new to snorkeling and scuba. There is a large sandy beach perfect for sunbathing and there are several hiking trails leading to breathtaking lookouts.

The bay provides some protection from large ocean waves and allows swimmers a terrific opportunity to view the reef life in a safer, protected environment. However during sometimes of the month (generally 9-10 days after the full moon) the box jellyfish come out in force. Best to keep out of the water then. This beach can be pretty crowded. It's best to get there around 9 a.m. if you want to get a parking spot.

In 1990 the city decided it was time to clean up the bay by limiting the amount of visitors who could access it each day and building an education center. You will be required to view a short video about conservation before going down to the shore.

$1 per car parking fee, $5 per person admission fee for those 13 years or older, $1 per person shuttle bus fee each way (this is optional - there is a good, but steep, road from the parking lot area to the beachfront). Open from 6:00am - 7:00pm, closed on Tuesdays. Hanauma Bay

This is a fine spot for swimming when the surf is calm. However, when the surf is up, this beach can be treacherous due to the shorebreak and rip tide currents. Experienced bodysurfers find that the waves here have no equal any where else on the island. However, novices should not even consider bodysurfing at this dangerous location.

This little cone-shaped lump of lava off Kualoa Point is officially called Mokoli'i but has earned the nickname Chinaman's Hat from its resemblance to the straw hats that the Chinese immigrants wore. In the past, this little chunk of land was part of a Oahu, but through years of erosion it has separated. You can still reach it though. It is possible to walk there from Kualoa Regional Park during low tide. You can also surf or kayak there.

The island supports an interesting array of sea life and a small beach in a secluded cove. You can also attempt to climb the cinder cone, but it is steep and arduous, so proceed with caution. From Mokoli'i you can get stunning views of the Koolau Mountains, Mokapun peninsula, Kahaluu, Kaneohe, and Kailua. Chinaman’s Hat Mokolii

Manana Island
Location: Windward East

Also known as Rabbit Island. Manana Island is located on the Windward side of O'ahu, north of Makapu'u Point. The shape of the island actually resembles a rabbit but it was named Rabbit Island because rabbits actually live there after a rancher released the animals there.
