Ka’anapali Beach

Nearly all of the seaside resorts in this area back up to Ka'anapali Beach, a three mile stretch of sand suitable for frolicking with a sidewalk that runs the entire length by the hotels to Black Rock. Black Rock slices across the beach and is a popular spot for snorkelers and scuba divers.

Those in search of their scuba certification on this part of the island will likely do your first dive at Black Rock. There are also plenty more opportunities to whet your appetite for water sports such as parasailing, wind surfing and jet skis.

Beach access can be tricky, especially during the high tourist season. Some of the resorts have beach access lots that are open to the public. There are also several secure pay-to-park lots. Early morning is the best chance to claim a parking spot and patch of sand. Of course where tourists gather, so do thieves. Do not leave any valuables unattended or in your car as they will likely not be there when you return.

Also, as will all beaches in the islands, never turn your back on the ocean. Sometimes in the winter months the surf can get rough. In the event the water is too dangerous, the life guards will post red flags as a warning.

Ka'anapali beach is located about two miles north of Lahaina along West Maui's shore. From Lahaina, head west on highway 30. The Ka'anapali Resort is well marked and just off the highway. Public access signs near the shore direct you down to the beach.
