Hana Highway - The Road to Hana
When it comes to driving the Road to Hana on Maui, it's the journey, not the destination, that is the main attraction. There are few words that can describe the beauty of this drive with its cliffs cloaked in green and lush valleys bursting with waterfalls. Curves hug the coast and gaze over an ocean that stretches uninterrupted all the way to the Alaskan coastline. Couple that with black, red, and white sand beaches, a multitude of trails, and beautiful gardens and you’ve discovered the highway to heaven itself.
Hopefully you've already perused our articles about "Is the Hana Highway worth it?" and, if applicable, "Can I make the drive to the 'Ohe'o Gulch and back in a single day?" If not, you might want to check those articles. If the Hana Highway sounds like the drive for you, great, we're here to help you plan that perfect road trip down this beautiful stretch of highway.
We've actually split all the Hana Highway sights and stops off into their own area here on our website. It helps separate the Hana Highway sights from the rest of the spots on Maui. We highly encourage all visitors to consider a guidebook when driving the Highway. It's the best way to determine which stops are for you and which aren't. A lot of folks simply let the clumps of cars along the road be their guide. Big mistake. There are a lot of great places along the Hana Highway, but there are also several stops you'd be wasting your time stopping at. That said, we invite you to let us be your guide. We've driven the Hana Highway a few hundred times over the last few years and eventually we said, "Why not put what we know in a book?" And, we can now better educate visitors on what spots are off-limits (or kapu) as well. Our guidebook, "Hana Highway Mile by Mile: The Road to Hana and Beyond" will navigate you along the 52 miles of undeveloped road, 56 one-lane bridges and 617 curves. You will pass by the most breath-taking scenery on the face of the earth. It was literally a million years in the making. And the journey doesn’t end in Hana, it continues well beyond the sleepy coastal town at the bay. Here's the official description, "Thoroughly researched, written and photographed by the authors, “Hana Highway Mile by Mile” will guide you on this adventure of a lifetime. Each stop is rated on a scale of one to five so you can easily know which places to see and which to skip. The full color photographs are the best way to capture the beauty the Hana Highway has to offer. Care has been taken to ensure that each map provides as much detail as possible right down to mile markers, landmarks and points of interest. Mile markers are the easiest way to navigate this journey and “Hana Highway Mile by Mile” delivers the most accurate estimates available. When it comes to driving the road to paradise Mile by Mile is the only way to go. Aloha to the Hana Highway and beyond."

We'll be including this update in the next (5th) edition of our Hana Highway book next year.
When will the 5th edition be out since I am unable to find a 4th edition to purchase. I am not going again until December so I have some time.
Mahalo Jim
Thanks for the update, I ordered a copy and received it yesterday.
