Hanakapi`ai Beach is located two miles along the Kalalau trail (which begins at Ke`e Beach). We’d hiked to this beach before and then another two miles inland along a pig trail to Hanakapi`ai Falls (beautiful) - but this time we kept on, hiking another 2.5 miles along the trail to Waiahuakua Valley before turning back. The trail significantly narrows after Hanakapi`ai Valley and the number of hikers decreases ten fold. A permit is also required to hike beyond this valley.
