Donkey Beach

Donkey Beach This used to be a fairly secluded beach but not so much anymore. In the past, the short hike to the beach ensured some privacy for nude sunbathers. However, since more people are visiting Donkey Beach, there is more enforcement of the anti-nudity laws on Hawaii's beaches. Donkey Beach got its name from the mules which use to haul sugar cane from the plantation nearby.
That plantation has been closed for some time and new owners have purchased the land. These developers are selling to high-end customers who seem to prefer their beaches clothing-mandatory.

The beach is littered with black rocks but there are some lovely shade trees. There are no facilities or a lifeguard. The swimming here can sometimes be dangerous, so please monitor conditions before entering.

To get to Donkey Beach take Highway 56 north toward Anahola. Park before mile marker #12 and walk about 10 minutes to the beach. This path may is on private property but the owner allows access unless otherwise posted.
Location: Donkey Beach is located in the East Kauai Region
